FRIENDS

Falconbridge FRIENDS is a well-established neighborhood program of volunteers. For more than a decade, we have helped residents who have temporary or longer-term needs. For some, this means meals during a short-term challenge; for other neighbors, our assistance can support their ability to sustain fully independent living in their homes.

What assistance is available? Falconbridge FRIENDS will prepare and deliver meals; shop or run errands; provide transportation to appointments; roll out and pull in waste bins; collect mail, and/or make social visits.  Falconbridge FRIENDS support does not include any medical help or financial tasks (such as paying bills, etc.). Our services are intended to appropriately supplement any assistance available from family members, friends, and professionals such as doctors, nurses, therapists, and home-care specialists.

WHEN IS ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE? Circumstances for which Falconbridge residents can get help from FRIENDS include recovery from surgery or childbirth; illness; limited physical dexterity or mobility; or other situations requiring practical or emotional support.

HOW DO I BECOME A VOLUNTEER? First, you should know that, as a FRIENDS volunteer, you do only what you want to do when you are available to do it. (Not everyone wants to cook for others or drive people to appointments.) No pressure.  

We ask that you attend a FRIENDS orientation: our Co-Coordinators will provide you with everything you need to participate. 

A Falconbridge FRIENDS by-product is a free medical-equipment loan closet. Supplies such as knee walkers, rolling walkers, bedside toilets, crutches, and shower chairs are available by calling 919-391-8210 or emailing FalconbridgeFriends@gmail.com.
